Welcome to End AxD

September 1, 2020

We're excited to launch End AxD as a place for us to merge our individual efforts into one group project to End Alexander Disease. End AxD was founded by Patient Advocates in partnership with Doctors and Researchers to provide you with the most up to date, accurate information, and push forward research so that we can get effective treatments and an eventual cure for Alexander Disease in these patients lifetimes.

We're also bringing together multiple fundraising forces, like Elise's Corner and Grayson's Ladder. If you've ever had a friend or family member who wanted to donate to Alexander Disease Research, but they wondered why you were sending them to "donate to Grayson instead of Jane/John," now you can send them to End AxD. Be sure to check out our Patient Stories page to learn more about Elise and Grayson, as well as a few others living with Alexander Disease. If you want to share your story on the End AxD website, let us know.

Many of you may also already be familiar with two of our Scientific Board of Directors: Dr. Amy Waldman of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and Dr. Albee Messing, author of Alexander Disease: A Guide for Patients and Families. They are joined by Berit Powers of Ionis Pharmaceuticals, who has been working in collaboration with Dr. Messing's laboratory to investigate new treatment options for Alexander Disease through the suppression of GFAP protein using Ionis Pharmaceuticals technology. It's an exciting time in AxD research, and End AxD is thrilled to be at the front lines, helping to create meaningful change in the lives of AxD patients worldwide.

One last thing before we go! September is Leukodystrophy Awareness Month! Please consider a donation to support our mission. It's the perfect time to get started. You can also share endaxd.com on your social media with the hashtags #LeukodystrophyAwareness and #EndAxD to help raise awareness. In this time of social distancing, Online Advocacy is something all of us can do. Thank you for visiting our new website!
